Event Notes

× Mark Hellman pays a transcendent tribute to legendary folksinger Pete Seeger that will have you humming and singing along in The Incompleat Folksinger.
Directed by Ross Desprez. Musical Direction by Tobin Stokes.

Pete Seeger was a key figure in the mid-20th-century global folk music revival and inspired generations of music makers across Canada. This rollicking, tour-de-force show (adapted from Seeger's 1972 memoir) Mark Hellman imagines a concert somewhere on the road, 1970. In Seeger’s own words and the music of many, he embarks on a 35-year journey spanning the globe: singing in defense of the poor, the oppressed, and the exploited, standing up to bosses, governments, and the mass media. Inviting the audience to sing along at every turn, even in 3-part harmony, by the finale of “If I Had a Hammer” performer and audience members merge into a mass choir, embodying the principle that Seeger lived through his life and art: “Participation. That’s what’s gonna save the human race.”
